Critical Illness Cover provides a one‑off lump sum payment if you are diagnosed with a specified serious illness during the policy term — for example, cancer, stroke or heart attack (depending on policy).

The lump sum can help with medical costs, replacement income, mortgage payments or other expenses that may arise when you are recovering.

Many people assume that Critical Illness Cover is unaffordable, but the cost depends on many factors such as your age, health, lifestyle, cover amount and term.

When you apply through us, we’ll connect you with providers who can offer cost‑effective options tailored to your budget.

How much cover do I need?

It depends on your personal situation: outstanding mortgage, income, savings, dependents, lifestyle. Many advisers suggest aiming for enough to cover 3‑5 years of lost income or your major commitments — but you should tailor the amount to your own circumstances.

Does Critical Illness Cover pay out for any illness?

No — only the specified illnesses defined in the policy are covered. If you are diagnosed with a condition not listed, there will be no payout. Also you may need to survive a minimum number of days after diagnosis (often 14 days) before the benefit is payable.

Can I get cover if I have a pre‑existing medical condition?

Possibly — but the premium may be higher; you may face exclusions or be declined entirely. It’s important to compare providers and understand how your health may affect the terms.

What if I miss premium payments?

If you don’t keep up with your premiums the policy may lapse and you could lose your cover. Always check the terms to see if there is a grace period.

Can I cancel the policy?

Yes, you can cancel, but you may not get any premiums back, especially in the early years of the policy. If you later apply for a new policy your terms might be less favourable.

Types of Life Insurance Policies

Overview
Best For

Term Life Insurance

Term life insurance is a straightforward policy that provides coverage for a specific period (e.g., 10, 20, or 30 years). If you pass away during the term, your beneficiaries receive the sum assured. If you survive the term, no benefit is paid, and the policy ends.

Best For:

Whole of Life Insurance

Whole of life insurance offers coverage for your entire life. As long as you continue paying the premiums, your beneficiaries will receive a payout upon your death, no matter when it occurs. These policies often have higher premiums but offer peace of mind knowing your family is protected for life.

Best For:

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illness insurance provides a lump sum payment if you’re diagnosed with a specified critical illness, such as cancer, stroke, or heart attack. The policy can be added to a life insurance policy or purchased separately. The payout can be used to cover medical costs, loss of income, or any other financial needs during recovery.

Best For:

Income Protection Insurance

Income protection insurance provides a replacement income if you’re unable to work due to illness or injury. The policy typically pays out a percentage of your regular earnings until you return to work or reach retirement age, depending on the policy terms.

Best For:

Family Income Benefit

Family income benefit is similar to term life insurance, but instead of a lump sum payout upon death, your family will receive a regular monthly income for a predetermined period. This can be particularly useful for families who rely on a regular income.

Best For:

Over 50s Life Insurance

This is a type of whole life insurance specifically designed for people over 50 who want to leave an inheritance or cover funeral costs. The premiums are typically fixed, and the coverage may not require a medical exam (depending on the insurer).
